Evidence of water on Mars

NASA first found water on Mars

The deposit isn't made of pure, clear ice. Rather, it's thought to be about 50 to 85 percent water ice, mixed in with dust or rocks.

Conditions on Mars are such that if you just dug up the deposit, the exposed waterice would turn directly into water vapor.

The narrow streaks emerge only on slopes in the planet's warmest regions, and usually on the sides of craters facing the equator, which get more sun.

This is important because on Mars, which is much colder than Earth, water would be able to exist in liquid form only in the warmest areas.
