1. Detection of Gravitional waves 


On 11 February 2016, the LIGO and Virgo Scientific Collaboration announced they had made the firstdirect observation of gravitational waves. 

The observation was made five months earlier, on 14 September 2015, using the Advanced LIGO detectors. The gravitational waves originated from a pair of merging black holes.

How do gravity wave works ?

When an object accelerates, it creates ripples in space-time, just like a boat causes ripples in a pond (and also similarly an accelerating electrical charge produces an electromagnetic wave). These space-time ripples are gravitational waves. ... 

Gravitational waves are important in telling us about the early universe.
